Dolpo! The word conjures up visions of mysterious monasteries of snow leopards and blue sheep. A land beyond the Himalaya.
Laying in western Nepal, Dolpo is one of the most remote of Nepal’s regions. By special permit, we are able to offer these-days trek through upper and lower Dolpo .
Our route follows much of the route taken by Peter Mathiessen and George Shaller as described in "The snow Leopard” . We trek 200 miles , averaging 10 miles a day. We spend 6-8 hours a day trekking . Several layover days are planned . Porters carry a day pack with the things you need for the day.
Participants should be in good shape. We are at high elevation much of the time on this trip. Five passes, over 16,500 feet, are crossed . Steep climbs and descents are made.
- Day 01 : Arrive Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel. Welcome Dinner in the evening.
Day 02 : Sightseeing in and around Kathmandu valley and preparation for the trek
Day 03 : Fly to Nepalgung (1 hour flight.
Day 04 : Fly to Dunai (2,796m/9,200ft)
Day 05 : Dunai - Tarakot (2,550m/8,366ft)
Day 06 : Tarakot - Khanigoan (2,500m/8,202ft)
Day 07 : Khanigoan - Chukore (3,550m /11,647ft)
Day 08 : Chukore - Kamok Kharka (4,000m/13,123ft)
Day 09 : Kamok Kharka - Dho (4,130m/13,550ft)
Day 10 : Rest day for acclimatization. Visit monasteries during day trip
Day 11 : Dho - Numa La Camp (Shering Gompa) (4,350m/14,272ft)
Day 12 : Numa La Camp - Baga La Camp (4,500m/14,928ft)
Day 13 : Baga La Camp - Sanu Bheri (3,800m/12,503 ft)
Day 14 : Sanu Bheri - Phokshundo Lake (3,627m/11,900ft)
Day 15 : Phokshundo Lake- Lasa Meadow (4,300m /14,108ft)
Day 16 : Lasa Meadow - Kagmara Phedi (4,000m/13,123ft)
Climb 3,000ft to the summit of Kagmara Pass (5,106m/16,800ft), then descend the same route along Kagmara Glacier to Kagmara Phedi camp. (13km/5hrs)
Day 17 : Kagmara Phedi camp - Mauriya Phedi (3,100m/10,200ft)
Day 18 : Mauriya Phedi - Chotra (3,009m/9,900ft)
Day 19 : Chotra - Jumla (2300m/7,546ft)
Day 20 : Jumla – Nepaljung by flight.
Day 21 : Nepalgunj – Kathmandu by flight.
Day 22 : Sightseeing Bhaktapur City. Farewell diner in the evening.
